Doka work with major partners on these civil and infrastructure projects in order to supply formwork and shoring solutions for the construction of bridges and tunnels, public facilities such as schools, hospital and transport hubs as well as power-generation facilities. As a specialist supplier of construction materials, we believe it is critical to ensure that there is an even and balanced environment to allow for all types and sizes of construction company to become involved and engaged in these larger nationwide framework agreements. At Doka, we would welcome the opportunity speak with companies which are looking to participate in the next round of framework agreement and to take the opportunity to share our thoughts on how our formwork and shoring services can integrate themselves into the earlier stages of your plans. The Construction Industry: Looking ahead at the predicted challenges of 2018
We found a starting point with The Guardian who state that “alongside solid readings from the smaller manufacturing and construction sectors, the report from Britain’s dominant services industry suggested economic growth of between 0.4% and 0.5% in the final three months of 2017, according to the IHS Markit chief economist, Chris Williamson.” The Guardian further reports that “the uncertainty from Brexit prevented the UK from fully enjoying the tailwind from the synchronised global upswing [for economic growth]”, and “the PMI figures give a broadly positive reading on the health of the economy at the end of 2017, there were some signs of underlying weakness. As well as growing at the slowest rate since August 2016, services firms said Brexit-related uncertainty was holding back the willingness of their clients to spend. The rate of employment growth also eased to a nine-month low”. […]
Is the construction industry ready for skyscrapers above 600 metres?
Skyscrapers are one of the most suggestive constructions. Authentic challenges for engineering, execution and safety always attract the attention of construction professionals. A 200-meter skyscraper seemed a significant culmination a few years ago. However, there are already projects that multiply this figure by five. Something unimaginable in the twentieth century, but by the year 2045 some commentators are expecting the first mile-high skyscraper, a dream, a utopia, we’ll see. In the construction of skyscrapers, you need competitive solutions to make them a reality. And in this, Doka has much to contribute after decades of innovation. In this article we take a look into the tall buildings of 2017, reviewed by The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). […]
How “The Internet of Things” is Affecting the Construction Industry
The “Internet of Things” (IoT) is becoming an increasingly growing topic of conversation both in the workplace and outside of it. The IoT is the concept of connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other) and is transforming the construction industry. This includes everything from mobile phones to wearable devices and almost anything else you can think of. This is also subject to components used on modern building sites, such as Doka’s innovative concrete monitoring sensor – Concremote, which plays a huge part in the IoT. The Balance’ takes a look into how the IoT is changing the construction industry in the 21st century with some practical examples. […]
