Skyscrapers are one of the most suggestive constructions. Authentic challenges for engineering, execution and safety always attract the attention of construction professionals. A 200-meter skyscraper seemed a significant culmination a few years ago. However, there are already projects that multiply this figure by five. Something unimaginable in the twentieth century, but by the year 2045 some commentators are expecting the first mile-high skyscraper, a dream, a utopia, we’ll see. In the construction of skyscrapers, you need competitive solutions to make them a reality. And in this, Doka has much to contribute after decades of innovation. In this article we take a look into the tall buildings of 2017, reviewed by The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH). […]
The vast majority, four out of five, of the UK’s workers are employed in service jobs with fewer than one in 10 people work in manufacturing and even fewer in construction. The service sector jobs have grown over time: 20 years ago they made up less than three-quarters of employment with the biggest growth in public administration, education and health. Over the same period, the biggest fall has been in manufacturing, where the share of jobs has halved since the 1990s. The sector now provides employment for just under three million workers. […]
Building Design & Construction Magazine have published a report for industry professionals on the landmark 21 storey scheme, New Era Square. In this article, we take a look into Doka’s formwork solutions, including their new slab panel system Dokadek 30 and multi-functional Xclimb60 protection screens.
The first phases in Sheffield’s £65 million Chinatown development, New Era Square, are well under way now and due to finish in early 2018. The “Internet of Things” (IoT) is becoming an increasingly growing topic of conversation both in the workplace and outside of it. The IoT is the concept of connecting any device with an on and off switch to the Internet (and/or to each other) and is transforming the construction industry. This includes everything from mobile phones to wearable devices and almost anything else you can think of. This is also subject to components used on modern building sites, such as Doka’s innovative concrete monitoring sensor – Concremote, which plays a huge part in the IoT. The Balance’ takes a look into how the IoT is changing the construction industry in the 21st century with some practical examples. […]
